Devlog #1

Hallo!

Welcome to the Devlog #1 of Finding Cinderella! As we are nearing the release of our first demo, we thought it would be an epic idea to show you how Finding Cinderella came to be, give you an insight into our development process and maybe let you in on some interesting facts from behind the scenes. We also wanted to write a devlog because all cool game developers do that, and we too, want to be cool.

This is our first devlog so please bear with us and let us know what you think. We’d like to do more of these in the future and if there’s anything you’d be interested in knowing, leave us a comment below.

In today’s devlog we’ll tell you a little bit more about how Finding Cinderella started, what’s the main idea behind it and what we’d like it to be. Let’s get to it!

How it all started

  • Human 1: Hello! I can probably draw.
  • Human 2: Hey! I can probably code.
  • Human 1: Let’s make a VN!
  • Human 2: Yes!
  • (2 months of development later)
  • Human 2: Wait, who’s going to write it?
  • Human 1: I thought you would do the writing.
  • Human 2: What? I thought you would do the writing.

What is “Finding Cinderella”

As you probably already know from our itch.io game description, Finding Cinderella is first and foremost a Visual Novel. It’s a romantic comedy about a prince looking for his future Queen on a royal ball organized for this exact purpose.

However, the game comes with a mysterious / detective twist to it where one of the ladies invited to the ball is actually an assassin in disguise. Although the assassin is mainly after the prince, she doesn’t shy away from getting rid of other ladies standing in her way as well.

Because of this element, any new play through is never the same as the one before. The identity of the assassin changes with every new game and ladies’ relationships and fates depend on who’s still alive.

How “Finding Cinderella”

We knew we wanted to make a visual novel, but didn’t know what genre it should be. Then we thought we should make a dating simulator, cause everyone likes cute guys and girls. Then we decided to make a game with cute girls, cause the artist cannot draw guys.

Then, we wanted to have something unique, what's the fun in love if you don't go through great trials to obtain it. Hence, the assassin coming for your life. That's how "Finding Cinderella" came to be!

As for the title, Cinderella seemed fitting as the assassin would be pretending to be someone she's not to obtain her goals, and also because Cinderella, in every retelling of the fairytale, is just cute.

Why "Finding Cinderella"

Why not?

Yes, why should you not play a game where you come for lovey-dovey but get stabby-stabby?

No, but in all seriousness, we've tried our best to make it as epic as possible. From Human #1 working on adding new epic stuff every day to Human #2 crying over every little detail, we both tried to make this a game we ourselves would love playing, and we hope you love it too!

Some fancy stuff we are really proud of, and hope that you'll look forward to:

  • a really really realllllllly weird prince you will get to play as
  • funny and natural conversations
  • unique UI you don't get to see a lot in VNs made with the same engine
  • a lot of gameplay elements, so you get to play as well as read
  • many more, but why spoil the fun?

Please look forward to the first demo release, the date isn't fixed yet, but it's very soon :D

Aaaaand that’s it for today’s devlog. Thank you so much for your support and see you in the next one!

Have a nice day and owo!
